3 Reasons to Buy a Home this February

by Michelle Reedy and Alan Swider

According to recent research from Realtor.com, this February is the perfect time for home buyers to purchase a new home. Not convinced?! The current market is favoring buyers willing to brave moving in the cold, snowy weather. As the year progresses, things are predicted to change which will affect buyers in the market. Don't wait for the ground to thaw. Check out these reasons why you should purchase your new home today.

1. Lower Interest Rates.

Interest rates are expected to increase at least half a percent throughout 2017, according to Realtor.com chief economist Jonathan Smoke. It makes sense for buyers to look in lower mortgage rates NOW before they reach almost 5% in the near future.

2. Lower Home Prices.

Recent trends analyzed by realtor.com show that in the 50 most populated metropolitan areas in the nation January and February home prices were 8.45% lower than those in July and August. This means significant savings for buyers. Home prices in 2017 are supposed to be higher due to the strength of last year's market. Take advantage of the lowest home prices of the year buy buying now.

3. Lower Competition.

Although the inventory of homes in February remains largely unchanged from previous months, the number of buyers drops significantly. That means less buyers competiting in the market. It is easier for you to find what you are looking for without constantly being worried that some one might beat you to an offer. Plus, sellers might be more anxious to sell having been on the market a while meaning they could be willing to negotiate a better deal for you.
