Help Curb Hunger in Somerset County!

by Michelle Reedy and Alan Swider

Help Curb Hunger in Somerset County! Although the majority of us in Somerset County are fortunate to not have to worry about food insecurity, there are still many people that go to bed hungry every night. Help support everyone in our communities by supporting the 23rd Annual Curbing Hunger Month Food Drive this June.

During the summer months, food supplies are traditionally low. All donations to the Curbing Hunger Food Drive will benefit local organizations throughout the county to help them continue their vital mission during these warmer months. Please fill the orange plastic bags that were distributed on your recycling container in May with non-perishable food items. No longer have the bag? No problem! Simply fill a plastic grocery bag! Then place it on your curb now through June 30th during your regularly scheduled recycling collection day to be picked up. It’s that easy! You can also drop off goods at the Courier News’s food collection point located at 92 East Main Street, Somerville.

Much needed items include:

  • Parmalat milk

  • Peanut butter and jelly

  • Canned meat and fish

  • Canned tomato sauce

  • Canned fruits and vegetables

  • “Meals-in-a-can” (i.e. meaty soups, stews, and pasta)

*Please note that perishables and food in glass containers cannot be accepted.

You can also make an online contribution to the drive by clicking HERE. You can select and purchase food to donate at this site. All items purchased will be delivered to local food bank by Amp Your Good.

Although the drive is held in June, you can contribute throughout the year! Curbside donations are still accepted during any of your recycling collection days beyond June. You can also bring donations to the Somerset County Recycling Center (40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater) during the first Saturday of every month.

Help make Somerset County a great place to live for everyone in our communities by supporting the 23rd Annual Curbing Hunger Month Food Drive!
