Parks and Recreation in Bridgewater

 

Bridgewater is filled with some of the best recreational facilities in the area. The township has 3,600 acres of recreational spaces in the form of public and private Parks. These parks are operated by the Bridgewater Recreation Department and Somerset County Parks Commission. The parks offer incredible, diverse amenities including walking trails, playgrounds, natural spaces, athletic fields, and more. Two of the favorite parks in Bridgewater are Duke Island Park (Old York Road) and Washington Valley Park (Miller Lane and Newman’s Lane). Duke Island Park covers 343 acres and has playgrounds, trails, athletic fields, ice skating, and cross country skiing. Washington Valley Park is 719 acres. Of the many amenities offered at this park, it is known for some of the best mountain biking in the state and some of the best wildlife and nature viewing in the region. Raritan Valley Country Club (747 State Route 28) offers a Herbert H. Barker designed golf course, Har-Tru  tennis courts, and aquatic center.



Education in Bridgewater, NJ

Students in Bridgewater are educated at the top ranked Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District. This public school district serves students within Bridgewater Township and neighboring Raritan Borough. This excellent district has been recognized by the state of New Jersey and nationwide for its high performing academic and extracurricular success. Many of the schools are located right in Bridgewater for the convenience of township residents. There are 5 elementary schools for students in kindergarten through 4th grade, including Adamsville Primary School (400 Union Avenue), Bradley Gardens Primary School (148 Pine Street), Crim Primary School (1300 Crim Road), Milltown Primary School (611 Milltown Road), and Van Holten Primary School (360 Van Holten Road). Eisenhower Intermediate School (791 Eisenhower Avenue) and Hillside Intermediate School (844 Brown Road) are the two district schools serving students in grades 5th and 6th. Students in 7th and 8th attend Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School (128 Merriwood Road) and those in 9th through 12th attend Bridgewater-Raritan High School (600 Garretson Road).



Health and Transportation in Bridgewater, NJ

Bridgewater and the surrounding communities are home to many world class medical facilities. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset (110 Rehill Avenue, Somerville) is the nearest full service hospital for residents in Bridgewater. There are also several family medicine and urgent care facilities located within the township, including Summit Medical Group Family Medicine (465 Union Avenue, Suite B) and U.S. HealthWorks Bridgewater  (350 Grove Street).

 

Residents in Bridgewater enjoy excellent commuting options via the area’s extensive transportation network. Interstate 287 runs through the majority of Bridgewater and Interstate 78 is located at the northern part of the township. These interstates connect the community to the rest of Somerset County and the larger metropolitan areas in the region. Bridgewater Station (2 Cole Drive) allows commuters to travel via NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line, which runs all the way to Newark Penn Station. Located only 29 miles away from Bridgewater, Newark Liberty International Airport (3 Brewster Road, Newark) offers daily domestic and international flights.
